Dun Dun… Netflix just shocked Hollywood.
On Friday, the streaming giant announced a deal to buy Warner Bros. film studio and streaming assets (HBO Max), ending a bidding war that included Paramount Skydance and Comcast. The cash-and-stock agreement values the enterprise at $82.7B.
Once Warner completes its previously planned split—separating its cable networks (Discovery, CNN, TNT, and others) from its studios—Netflix will assume control of its century-plus old archive, including The Wizard of Oz, the DC Universe, Harry Potter, and Friends.
Not everyone is applauding. Paramount Skydance questioned the fairness of the sale and raised antitrust flags. Lawmakers and politicians across party lines echoed the criticism, with the Trump admin reporting “heavy skepticism.” Movie-theater owners also protested, fearing future Warner Bros. films would go straight to streaming (despite Netflix’s promise that it’d continue theatrical releases).

CHRISTIAN PERSPECTIVE
The world has different priorities than God does, and the entertainment industry races to capture our attention. Enjoy stories, films, and creativity as the good gifts they are without letting them become what shapes your affections most.
“Set your minds on things above, not on earthly things. For you died, and your life is hidden with Christ in God. When Christ, who is your life, appears, then you also will appear with him in glory.”

Social Disservices?
Several longtime fraud scandals targeting Minnesota’s social services have reached a tipping point.
Reported corruption schemes—including at a children’s food distribution nonprofit, a program for seniors with disabilities, and services for children with autism—have allegedly totaled hundreds of millions in stolen funds. Dozens of people have been charged with fraud, and some have been accused of funneling funds to al-Shabaab, an Islamic Somali terrorist organization, which they deny.
In a recent Truth Social post, President Trump blamed “Somali gangs” for “terrorizing” Minnesota, and blamed the Land of 10,000 Lakes’ Democratic Governor Tim Walz—who’s up for reelection next year—for allowing the scandals to fester.
House Republicans have opened an investigation into Walz’s handling of the issue, while the Treasury is probing whether money was actually sent to terrorists. Walz says he “welcomes” the investigations.

Verse to consider whether it’s the sins of others or our own that come to light… “For all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God; they are justified freely by his grace through the redemption that is in Christ Jesus. God presented him as the mercy seat by his blood, through faith, to demonstrate his righteousness, because in his restraint God passed over the sins previously committed. God presented him to demonstrate his righteousness at the present time, so that he would be just and justify the one who has faith in Jesus.”

Swimming Against the Current of Aging
We age because our cells do. The good news? Dolphins helped crack the code to slow it down.
After studying aging Navy dolphins, researchers discovered C15:0—an essential fatty acid that strengthens cell membranes and helps slow (and even reverse) aging at the cellular level. It’s a breakthrough that’s now available in fatty15, a once-a-day, vegan-friendly supplement.
Within 16 weeks, 70% of customers report benefits like deeper sleep, a calmer mood, improved joints, restored energy, and better labs. With 6,000+ 5-star reviews, 60+ patents, and 100+ peer-reviewed studies, it's science-backed. Birthright or Wrong?
SCOTUS has added President Trump’s birthright citizenship order to its docket.
Friday’s announcement comes nearly a year after Trump’s executive order saying babies born on Uncle Sam’s property would no longer have automatic citizenship unless at least one parent has permanent legal status. Lower courts responded swiftly and unanimously that the order violates the longstanding interpretation of the 14th Amendment, and the policy has been frozen ever since.
Roughly 150,000 babies are born to non-citizens in the U.S. each year. The justices are expected to hear arguments this spring and issue a ruling by summer.
The Supremes also revived Texas’s updated congressional map, overruling a lower court that said the redraw likely disadvantaged racial minorities. While not a final decision, it allows the GOP-friendly map to be used in the 2026 midterm elections while litigation continues.

ABOVE ALL, LOVE
As the Supreme Court weighs decisions beyond our control, don’t underestimate your ability to be an agent of God’s blessing right where you live. As you read these headlines with worry or hope, remember compassion for your neighbors–immigrants, longtime citizens, and those who disagree with you on immigration policy.
“I give you a new command: Love one another. Just as I have loved you, you are also to love one another. By this everyone will know that you are my disciples, if you love one another.”

IN OTHER BREWS…
The U.S. military conducted its 22nd strike on a suspected drug boat in the eastern Pacific, killing four and bringing Operation Southern Spear’s death toll to at least 87. U.S. Southern Command says the vessel was run by a Designated Terrorist Organization and carried illicit narcotics. It comes amid a bipartisan investigation into the legality of a strike on September 2nd.
The College Football Playoffs are set, featuring two non-Power Four teams for the first time with James Madison and Tulane. Undefeated Indiana ended up #1, and 3-loss Alabama snuck into the #9 slot, while 2-loss Notre Dame was the first team left out… and is now declining to play in any bowl game. Playoffs start December 19th; see the full schedule here.
The Men’s World Cup first-round matchups are set, too. FIFA held the 2026 World Cup Draw Friday, announcing the 48 trophy-hopeful nations for next June’s 104-game tournament, jointly hosted by the U.S., Mexico, and Canada (see a “shocking” moment here). The fútbol org also honored President Trump with its inaugural Peace Prize for promoting “peace and unity around the world.”
The CDC advisory panel has revised its rec. The group voted 8-3 to recommend waiting 2+ months before giving newborns the hepatitis B vaccine unless the mother tests positive or her status is unknown. Previous guidance—still upheld by the American Academy of Pediatrics—recommended all newborns receive the vaccine within 24 hours to protect against the incurable liver infection.
King James’s double-digit reign is over. For the first time since before the iPhone was unveiled, LeBron James scored fewer than 10 points in a regular-season game, ending a 1,297-game streak. The NBA’s all-time scoring leader finished with just 8 points in Thursday night’s game, but he did deliver the game-winning assist.
