Happy Wednesday!
On Monday, we secretly gave out our Managing Editor Kathleen’s phone number to our Choose to Pay members (all 7,998 of them), asking them to wish her a happy birthday.

Over 400 of them understood the assignment. Catch up on the celebration here.

(And happy belated bday, Kathleen!)

QUOTE OF THE DAY
“To know that nothing happens in God's world apart from God's will may frighten the godless, but it stabilizes the saints.”

Runway Crash

Two pilots were killed and 41 people injured late Sunday in LaGuardia Airport’s first fatal plane crash since 1992.

An Air Canada Express jet landing from Montreal and carrying 72 passengers and four crew struck a Port Authority fire truck crossing the runway just before midnight. Air traffic control cleared the truck to cross in order to respond to a report of an odor on a nearby plane. Recordings reveal the controller realizing the mistake and shouting for the truck to stop seconds before the crash.

A flight attendant was ejected over 300 feet—still strapped to her jump seat, which is specifically designed to withstand crashes—and survived, suffering only a fractured leg.

LaGuardia closed for 14 hours, cancelling over 600 flights. The NTSB has recovered both black boxes and launched a full investigation.

PRAY WITH US
Lord of Highest Heaven, today we are brought down low and shaken. Hold us fast, Searching, Knowing, Present One. Hold fast the families mourning those suddenly lost. Hold fast the injured, brought low and broken, who face an enduring trial. Hold fast the anxious who fear the journey over the jet bridge and into a cloudy expanse of helpless dependence.

We are finite and frail and vulnerable, reliant on Your understanding for our very life and breath. Teach us the wholehearted trust of a little child with a good parent, so that we walk by faith, overflowing with the peace of one who is fully known, seen, and cared for by the Lord of Highest Heaven. Amen.

WORLD NEWS

Nebulous Negotiations

The U.S. and Iran are in conflict over whether they’re at the negotiating table.

On Monday, President Trump announced that his administration held “very good” and “productive” talks with Iranian leaders and promised to back off his plan to “obliterate” Iran’s power plants for five days. Iran denied the claims and continued sending waves of missiles at Israel and surrounding Gulf States.

Yesterday, Iranian leaders took a more peaceful position, saying they had received negotiation “points from the U.S.” via mediators and maintaining that the Strait of Hormuz “is open to all.” The White House says peace talk plans remain “fluid.”

Meanwhile, stocks and energy prices are still yo-yoing alongside war updates. Global markets rallied, and crude oil prices had dropped Monday following Trump’s announcement but moved in unfavorable directions again yesterday after Iran’s strikes.

Verse to consider whether you’re negotiating with an international adversary, a difficult coworker, or a cranky toddler… “Seek peace and pursue it. The eyes of the LORD are on the righteous, and his ears are open to their cry for help.”

The Dirty Secret About Your Cookware

Bad news: Most cookware still contains Forever Chemicals (Teflon, other PFAS—ya know, the stuff you don’t want in your mashed potatoes). Just one scratch on a nonstick-coated pan can release 9,100 plastic particles… yikes.

Good news: Our Place fixes that with beautiful, genuinely safe, forever-chemical-free cookware that handles every dish you throw at it. Their 10-Piece Cookware Set includes two Always Pans and two Perfect Pots for roasting, boiling, frying, and sautéing… and anything else that Pinterest recipe requires.

Great news: You can save up to 40% sitewide through April 12! Plus, they have a 100-day risk-free trial and free returns, meaning you can shop without sweating any risk.

SPORTS

Big Games

It’s a big week for American sports—on and off the field.

Baseball is back: MLB’s 2026 season opens tonight with the Giants hosting the Yankees at Oracle Park—the first MLB game to air on Netflix—followed by a 14-game Opening Day slate starting tomorrow (see the schedule).

Meanwhile, March Madness rolls into the Sweet 16 this week. In the men’s bracket, #9 Iowa knocked out #1 Florida; Arizona, Michigan, and Duke are the remaining top seeds. On the women’s side, all four 1-seeds cruised through, while #10 Virginia pulled the tournament’s biggest upset, taking down #2 Iowa in double OT.

Off the court, Senators Schiff (D-CA) and Curtis (R-UT) introduced the “Prediction Markets Are Gambling Act” Monday, which would ban futures-betting platforms like Kalshi and Polymarket from accepting sports bets through a federal regulatory loophole.

CHRISTIAN PERSPECTIVE
Sports are fun and a great diversion, but can also become an obsession. Keep your affections with Jesus, allow your hobbies to be hobbies, and keep everything in its proper place.

“Turn your eyes upon Jesus / Look full in his wonderful face / And the things of earth will grow strangely dim / In the light of his glory and grace.”
Helen H. Lemmel, 1918 (Scriptural basis: Hebrews 12:2)

IN OTHER BREWS…

DHS has a new head of Security. Then-Senator Markwayne Mullin (R-OK) was confirmed by the Senate Monday and sworn in yesterday as the new Secretary of Homeland Security. The former professional MMA fighter, plumber, and cow rancher—who’s taking over a controversial and currently closed department—said he hopes that “in six months” DHS won’t be “the lead story every single day.”

Airports are getting extra ICE. On Monday, hundreds of ICE agents were deployed to 14 U.S. airports (see list) as TSA lines and staffing shortages continue to grow. Border Czar Tom Homan said ICE agents—untrained to screen bags/passengers—would assist TSA with non-screening duties like guarding exits. Over 400 working-without-pay TSA agents have quit while DHS remains unfunded.

A Texas refinery went up in flames Monday. An explosion at Valero’s oil refinery in Port Arthur sent thick black smoke skyward (see the blaze), prompting a nearly 12-hour shelter-in-place order for nearby residents. Officials believe an industrial heater caused the blast. No injuries were reported, and the fire was extinguished by early Tuesday morning.

Mail-in ballots are in the hot seat. SCOTUS heard arguments Monday over whether states can count mail-in ballots that arrive after Election Day. The conservative majority appeared skeptical of Mississippi's 5-day grace period law, and a ruling against it could eliminate similar policies in 13 additional states and D.C. ahead of November’s midterms. A decision is expected by late June.

Musk’s empire is getting into the chip business. Elon Musk announced “Terafab” over the weekend—a $20-25B chip-manufacturing joint venture among Tesla, SpaceX, and xAI in Austin, Texas. The complex would produce chips for Tesla vehicles and Optimus robots, as well as AI satellites in space. Musk called it “the most epic chip-building exercise in history by far.”
