Happy Friday!
Sorry to ruin your late-summer BBQ plans, but Walmart’s recalling its Great Value Brand frozen shrimp in 13 states after a radioactive material was discovered in one of its shipments.

No matter what comic books say, please don’t eat radioactive shrimp. You will not turn into Shrimp-Man.

QUOTE OF THE DAY
“It’s not about the habits, it’s about at the end of the day, I love Jesus more and I love others more. That is the essence of what it means to grow spiritually.”

Passing the Cart

Target announced that CEO Brian Cornell is stepping down in February after pushing the cart for 11 years.

Bullseye’s new boss will be current COO Michael Fiddelke, who climbed the ladder after starting as an intern 20 years ago. Fiddelke says he’s committed to getting the retail chain back on target and “building new momentum.” Targét’s sales have been flat or falling since 2022 amid persistent inflation and boycotts from both sides of the political aisle, first for championing DEI and then for retreating from its diversity initiatives.

Wall Street seems less than impressed with the inside hire; Target shares dipped 6% following the announcement

Also on a downward trend? Cracker Barrel, whose shares fell over 12% after the old country store unveiled a new, sleeker logo (see both logos).

Verse to consider when you’re feeling pressure to keep up in a fast-paced environment… “But seek first the kingdom of God and his righteousness, and all these things will be provided for you. Therefore don’t worry about tomorrow, because tomorrow will worry about itself. Each day has enough trouble of its own.”

Gaza City Operation

Israel’s military is “not waiting” to push into Gaza City.

Days after Hamas got on board with the regional negotiators’ proposed ceasefire deal to release almost half of the remaining hostages, Israel’s PM Netanyahu called for “shortening the timelines” on the planned offensive. The IDF has called up 60,000 reservists to accomplish its goal of deepening “damage to the terror infrastructure” and severing Gaza’s “dependence on Hamas.”

Hamas criticized Israel’s “disregard” for the ceasefire proposal (Israel hasn’t responded yet) and its “brutal war against innocent civilians in Gaza City," where an estimated one million people are sheltering.

The U.N. and Europe criticized the escalation, with France’s President Macron saying it spells “disaster for both peoples and risks plunging the entire region into a cycle of permanent war.”

RADIATE HOPE
War puts the brokenness of this world on full display and reminds us of our world’s desperate need for final redemption. Jesus came as light to shine in the darkness. Pray that the Middle East would experience the darkness-penetrating light of Christ.

That light shines in the darkness, and yet the darkness did not overcome it.”
John 1:5 (CSB) (read full passage)

Missed Memo

President Putin missed the peace-talk progress memo.

Tuesday night, Russia launched its largest aerial attack in over a month, deploying 574 drones and 40 missiles across Ukraine. Kyiv says it intercepted 62 drones and one missile, but strikes still hit five cities, damaging critical infrastructure, killing one, and injuring 22 others—most at a U.S.-owned electronics factory.

The assault rippled beyond Ukraine; under NATO’s Enhanced Air Policing, Romania scrambled two German Eurofighter Typhoon jets to protect the Romania-Ukraine border. No Russian aircraft or projectiles entered Romanian (NATO) airspace, and both jets returned safely.

Notably, the attacks come as President Trump, President Zelenskyy, and European leaders have been testing diplomatic waters with the Kremlin; Russian officials have stated attempts to resolve the Russia-Ukraine war without Moscow’s participation are a “road to nowhere.”

CHRISTIAN PERSPECTIVE
Negotiations progress and regress, and leaders succeed and let us down—but our hope is not in presidents, policies, or even achieving earthly peace. Put your trust in the Lord, who alone brings true justice, provision, and deliverance.

“Do not trust in nobles, in a son of man, who cannot save. When his breath leaves him, he returns to the ground; on that day his plans die. Happy is the one whose help is the God of Jacob, whose hope is in the LORD his God, the Maker of heaven and earth, the sea and everything in them. He remains faithful forever, executing justice for the exploited and giving food to the hungry.”
Psalm 146:3-7 (CSB) (read full passage)

IN OTHER BREWS…

President Trump can rip up his $454M IOU to New York. An appeals court ruled yesterday that the damages Trump and his business associates faced for misstating the value of assets were “excessive,” but the divided court stopped short of overturning the guilty verdict. #47 called it a “total victory” and thanked the court for its “courage.”

Hey Siri, take notes. Google announced its new AI-powered devices this week, including the Pixel 10 with Gemini, which can keep Grandma from cutting off Dad’s head in the family pic, translate your speech into Portuguese in real time, and auto-fill a text to mom with flight deets from another app. Apple users—still waiting on a smarter Siri—expect new iModels next month.

The DOJ is probing whether D.C.’s police doctored crime stats to make the city look safer. President Trump accused the department of giving “fake crime numbers.” D.C. police suspended a commander in May amid allegations of downgrading serious incidents—he’s denied the allegations. The investigation is expected to expand beyond D.C.’s Metro PD.

Tariff revenue ≠ rebate checks. Treasury Secretary Bessent said tariffs may rake in $300B+ this year, but the Trump admin is “laser focused” on paying down the $37.21T national debt before dispersing the “little rebate” directly to Americans, as President Trump floated previously. Meanwhile, the U.S. and E.U. unveiled trade deal deets, promising better “market access” and less “trade imbalances.”

The Federal Trade Commission wants to make it easier to skip leg day. The FTC is suing LA Fitness and other gym chains for making it “extremely difficult” to cancel memberships—like requiring soon-to-be former gymgoers to speak with a manager in person or mail a letter—leaving millions in unwanted recurring fees. LA Fitness says “the allegations are without merit.”

What We’re Eating
Our nutrients, with GEM*

Some 90% of Americans are nutrient-deficient. Odds are, even if you try to eat well, you’re still missing key vitamins and minerals. That’s why I started eating GEM.

Instead of pills or powders, GEM is a multivitamin made from real food that your body can actually absorb. Each bite covers the essentials most people lack—things like vitamin D, B12, probiotics, and zinc—all packed into a tasty, easy-to-remember bite.

It’s the simplest way I've found to close the gaps in my diet and support digestion, energy, and cognition without adding another pill to my routine.

What We’re Snacking and Meal-ing On
David Protein*

David Protein just got fishy… in a good way.

Their bars are a TPO fav, but now they’ve added frozen Cod (yep, the fish… the mild, flaky white one) to their product lineup.

It’s one of the only foods that’s more protein-dense than David’s bars. Each 4–6oz filet has 23g of protein, 100 calories, and 0g of sugar. That’s 92% protein. Plus, each fillet was wild-caught by a guy named Kyle off the coast of Alaska (forreal).

Prefer bars? Same deal: 28g protein, 150 calories, 0g sugar.

Protein-packed drawer? Check. Protein-packed dinner plate? Also check. Stock up on Amazon, or on their site—if they’re not sold out already.
