Aftermath

Three days after a gunman opened fire outside the White House Correspondents’ Dinner, federal prosecutors have charged a man with attempting to assassinate President Trump.

The 31-year-old—who shot a Secret Service agent before being tackled Saturday—has invoked his right to remain silent. Investigators say he emailed his family an apparent manifesto signed “Friendly Federal Assassin;” Trump described the manifesto as an “anti-Christian” declaration. Chief of Staff Susie Wiles is convening Secret Service and DHS officials this week to reassess protocols ahead of the president’s upcoming public appearances.

Meanwhile, Melania Trump is calling on ABC to fire Jimmy Kimmel over a monologue delivered two days before the shooting. Kimmel joked she had a “glow like an expectant widow,” which she called “corrosive.” Kimmel said it was a "light roast" about the 23-year POTUS-FLOTUS age difference.

RADIATE HOPE
In the face of a violent world, Christians have hope. The servant of God, who Himself did no violence, suffered violence for us to heal our brokenness and guarantee our home in His peaceful presence forever.

“Yet he himself bore our sicknesses, and he carried our pains; but we in turn regarded him stricken, struck down by God, and afflicted. But he was pierced because of our rebellion, crushed because of our iniquities; punishment for our peace was on him, and we are healed by his wounds.”

Windsor → Washington

The British Crown is in town ‘til Thursday.

King Charles and Queen Camilla are on a four-day state visit—the first by a British monarch since 2007—marking 250 years since “we the people” declared independence from the mother country.

President Trump and first lady Melania welcomed the royals to the White House Monday for a cuppa and a ramble (featuring a White House-shaped beehive), and yesterday Charles addressed a joint meeting of Congress with a speech calling the U.S.-U.K. relationship “one of the greatest alliances in human history.”

Next up: NYC to commemorate 9/11 ahead of the 25th anniversary.

A spot o’ tension remains… Trump’s criticism of Britain’s PM Starmer’s decision to sit out the Iran War; and a recent Pentagon email suggesting Uncle Sam’s reconsideration in backing Britain’s claim on the disputed Falkland Islands.

Verse to consider whether your relationships are full of joy, or taut with tension:Love one another deeply as brothers and sisters. Take the lead in honoring one another... Share with the saints in their needs; pursue hospitality. Bless those who persecute you; bless and do not curse. Rejoice with those who rejoice; weep with those who weep... If possible, as far as it depends on you, live at peace with everyone.

Going Where Missionaries Can’t

While headlines about wars continue to come in, conflict can also give people something unexpected: a hunger for the peace of the Gospel.

More people in dangerous areas are searching for truth. OneHope is meeting them there with digital programs that are going where missionaries aren’t allowed, and putting people one Google search away from God’s Word.

BE DOERS
Just $1 gets the hope of Jesus to three young people in the Middle East. Your gift will help someone find truth in the darkness and connect them with a missionary online. Conflict is devastating, but it opens a door for us to walk through, and right now, The Pour Over is matching the first $4,000 given through this link.

“Truly I tell you, whatever you did for one of the least of these brothers and sisters of mine, you did for me.”

Centibillionaire v. Billionaire

Silicon Valley heavyweights Elon Musk and Sam Altman are stepping into the ring courtroom.

Opening arguments began in a California federal court yesterday as Musk—an OpenAI co-founder—is suing the company, fellow co-founders Altman and Greg Brockman, and major investor Microsoft for $134B in “wrongful gains.”

Musk claims defendants used his clout and cash to abandon OpenAI’s humanity-helping mission and turn the nonprofit into a “wealth machine.” OpenAI argues the now-xAI leader—who left OpenAI in 2018, 13 months before a for-profit entity formed—wanted “absolute control” of the startup and calls the suit a “baseless and jealous bid to derail a competitor.”

Beyond the $134B, which he says he’d donate to OpenAI’s existing nonprofit, Musk wants the ChatGPT creator to ctrl-x Altman, Brockman, and its for-profit arm—a move that could close OpenAI’s path toward going public.

ETERNAL PERSPECTIVE
The outcomes of even the most high-profile trials aren’t a surprise to God. No matter what happens in court or in the great AI race, our hope is rooted in Christ—our Perfect Judge, Great Innovator, and Sovereign Lord.

“Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ. Because of his great mercy he has given us new birth into a living hope through the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead and into an inheritance that is imperishable, undefiled, and unfading, kept in heaven for you.”
1 Peter 1:3-4 (CSB) (read full passage)

IN OTHER BREWS…

The latest round of America’s redistricting battle came Monday. The Supreme Court cleared Texas’s redrawn congressional map—projected to give the Lone Star State up to five more red House seats—ending a multi-year legal fight. Hours later, Gov. DeSantis (R-FL) unveiled a proposed Florida map that could net the GOP four more seats; Florida’s legislature opens a special session Tuesday to consider.

Uncle Sam seems unimpressed with Iran’s latest peace proposal. The Islamic Republic’s offer would unblock the Strait of Hormuz… if the U.S. lifts its naval blockade, ends the war, and takes nuclear negotiations off the table. Officials said the offer looked “better” than previous drafts, but President Trump will only accept a deal that permanently powers down Iran’s nuclear operations.

The Trump admin has cleared the science board. On Friday, the White House fired all 22 members of the body that oversees the National Science Foundation, citing a 2021 Supreme Court ruling on non-Senate-confirmed appointees’ authority. A former chair called the move “unprecedented”; it followed proposed NSF budget cuts and more than 30% staff loss since early 2025.

Kenyan Sabastian Sawe ran into the two-hour marathon barrier so fast he broke it. Sawe’s 1:59:30 time (that’s 4:33-per-mile) at Sunday’s London Marathon was the first sub-two-hour 26.2-miler in an official race—Ethiopia’s Yomif Kejelcha became the second eleven seconds later. Both wore Adidas’ newest carbon-plated “super shoes,” which reduce the energy needed to run.

Former FBI Director James Comey was indicted by the DOJ yesterday over his Instagram post last May showing “8647” written in seashells. “Eighty-six” is slang for “get rid of,” and Donald Trump is the 47th president—prompting allegations that Comey was calling for Trump’s assassination. Comey removed the image shortly after posting, saying he “didn’t realize some folks associate those numbers with violence.”
