Hot Seat
Trump's nominee for Surgeon General felt the heat on Capitol Hill Wednesday.
Dr. Casey Means—a wellness entrepreneur and MAHA strategist—fielded pointed questions in a Senate committee hearing. When asked about letting her medical license lapse in 2024, she told senators she “had no plans to reactivate” it, since she won’t be “seeing patients in this role.”
Senators from both parties grilled Means on whether vaccines cause autism; she affirmed that “vaccines save lives,” but that “science is never settled.” Later, Sen. Murray (D-WA) pressed her on past comments that Americans "use birth control like candy." Means also faced allegations that she promoted products to followers without disclosing she was paid to do so; claims she denied.
Now, the Republican-majority Senate Health committee will decide whether to advance her nomination to the full Senate.

CHOOSE HUMILITY
Controversial nominees are sure to spark heated debate. Remember that both your stance and how you take your stance reflect on Christ.
“But speaking the truth in love, let us grow in every way into him who is the head — Christ.”

Epstein Epidemic
Former President Bill Clinton will testify today in Congress’s Epstein probe.
Former U.S. Secretary of State Hillary Clinton gave her closed-door deposition before the House Oversight Committee yesterday, saying she doesn’t recall “ever encountering Mr. Epstein.” Neither has been accused of wrongdoing, but Bill Clinton is expected to face questions regarding his appearance in Epstein’s flight logs.
As part of the widening Epstein blast radius, former Treasury Secretary Larry Summers announced his resignation from Harvard on Wednesday; Bill Gates apologized to his foundation, calling his time with the financier a “huge mistake”; Nobel Laureate Richard Axel stepped down from some positions at Columbia University; and celebrity doctor Peter Attia exited CBS.
The DOJ is also reviewing whether it withheld records containing an Epstein victim’s allegations that President Trump sexually abused her as a minor.

ETERNAL PERSPECTIVE
News of injustice and great suffering should move us to pray to the One True Judge and Comforter for the day when all these things will be put to an end:
“Now move us to a right grief, O God, over the pain, the loss, and the suffering occasioned by all in this world that stands in opposition to your life-giving rule and authority; by all that falls short of your glory—whether in our own hearts and choices, or in the hearts and choices of others, in our shared structures, in our nation and world, and in all forms of calamity and violence… Haste that day when your kingdom has not merely broken into this broken world, but is at last fully realized among us, complete, present, and irresistible.”

WORLD NEWS
Nuclear Negotiations
After three rounds of indirect nuclear talks, the U.S. and Iran are… still talking.
Following President Trump’s ultimatum last week to reach a deal soon or face “very bad things” (think: military action), American and Iranian delegations met in Geneva, Switzerland, yesterday in an effort to de-escalate tensions over Iran’s nuclear programs.
Washington—which believes Iran is building a nuclear bomb that could hit the U.S.—wants the Mid-East nation to dismantle its main nuclear sites, indefinitely halt all uranium enrichment (a key nuclear-bomb building step), and surrender its enriched uranium to the States. Iran wants Uncle Sam to recognize its right to enrich uranium and scale back sanctions, maintaining that its nuclear development is energy-focused.
Despite dueling desires, both sides have exchanged “positive ideas,” made “significant progress” toward a deal, and said negotiations will “resume soon.”

Verses to consider whether you’re conducting high-level international diplomacy, stuck in the middle of a tense conflict at work, settling playground squabbles, or just trying to get your cat into his carrier… “Seek peace and pursue it. The eyes of the LORD are on the righteous, and his ears are open to their cry for help.”

IN OTHER BREWS…
Apple’s carding kids at the App Store door. The company rolled out new age-verification tools this week, blocking users in Australia, Brazil, and Singapore from downloading 18+ apps unless they confirm they’re adults. In the U.S., Utah and Louisiana will soon require developers to confirm age categories as new laws aimed at blocking/restricting certain apps like social media take effect.
Cuban soldiers killed four and injured six aboard a Florida-registered speedboat that entered Cuban waters Wednesday. Cuban authorities said the passengers were Cuban nationals residing in the U.S., armed with weapons and intending to infiltrate the country for “terrorist purposes.” Secretary Rubio called the shootout “highly unusual” and said the U.S. would be conducting an independent investigation.
The FBI paid a visit to the Los Angeles Unified School District (LAUSD) Wednesday morning, with federal agents raiding the district’s headquarters and the home of its superintendent, Alberto Carvalho. Though court documents are sealed, the raids appear connected to an investigation into a $6M deal between the LAUSD and now-bankrupt AI startup AllHere; AllHere’s founder was charged with fraud in 2024.
Nvidia served up some Q4 Ws. The chipmaker posted Q4 earnings of $1.62 per share on $68.1B in revenue, topping Wall Street’s estimates of $1.53 and $65.8B. Data center revenue climbed 75% to $62.3B, but traders weren’t impressed—shares dropped 5% Thursday anyway, as bubble fears outweighed the blowout numbers.
Netflix has dropped its bid to buy Warner Bros.’ studio division for $72B after Paramount increased its competing offer to $77B for the entire company, plus a $7B promise to cover costs if regulators block the sale. Netflix’s co-CEOs released a joint statement saying Warner Bros. studio “was always a ‘nice to have’ at the right price, not a ‘must have’ at any price.” Congrats, Paramount.
