QUOTE OF THE DAY
“In prayer it is better to have a heart without words than words without a heart. ”
John Bunyan

ESPRESSO SHOTS

POLITICS

On Ice

It was a big weekend for President Trump’s immigration agenda.

Friday morning, the Senate passed a $70B budget reconciliation package that funds the Department of Homeland Security through 2029, ending a monthslong battle that caused a 76-day partial shutdown of the agency.

After a marathon of voting down unrelated add-ons, the bill passed 52-47 without any Democrat yays or any language banning Trump’s $1.8B “anti-weaponization” fund to compensate alleged victims of government mistreatment. The bill heads to the House for a vote this week.

Meanwhile Friday, a federal judge overturned Trump policies that froze immigration processing for applicants from 39 countries. The judge said the policies, which Citizenship and Immigration Services adopted after the shooting of two National Guard members, left law-abiding applicants from dozens of non-Western nations in “indeterminate legal limbo.”

CHRISTIAN RESPONSE
Governments have different priorities than God’s kingdom. As America wrestles with who’s allowed where, celebrate the radical inclusivity of the gospel while seeking the good of your neighbors and your temporary home.

“This is what the LORD of Armies, the God of Israel, says to all the exiles I deported from Jerusalem to Babylon: ‘Build houses and live in them. Plant gardens and eat their produce… Pursue the well-being of the city I have deported you to. Pray to the Lord on its behalf, for when it thrives, you will thrive.’”
Jeremiah 29:4-7 (CSB) (read full passage)

ECONOMY

Help Wanted Hired

Economic uncertainty and rising energy prices can’t keep the labor market down.

The Labor Department reported Friday that job growth crushed economists’ expectations for the third straight month—employers added 172,000 jobs in May, lapping the expected ~80,000. Unemployment held its ground at 4.3%, and revisions added a combined 93,000 jobs in March and April, with sectors like leisure, hospitality, and local government experiencing outsized gains ahead of the World Cup.

Some analysts are concerned about how well-paying these new positions are, as average hourly earnings (+3.4%) are not keeping pace with rising costs (3.8%).

All three stock indexes closed sharply lower on Friday, with tech stocks suffering their largest daily decline since April 2025. The chip-heavy selloff was driven in part by fears that the labor market’s heyday will push the Fed to raise rates.

CHRISTIAN RESPONSE
Regardless of whether the broader economy is struggling or thriving, Christians should seek to give generously of our time, talents, and resources to those in greater need. Reach out to your local church to see where help is needed.

“Don’t neglect to do what is good and to share, for God is pleased with such sacrifices.”

SPORTS

Chicagoin’ to Indiana?

The Chicago Bears took another step towards moving their lair.

The Bears are committed to replacing Soldier Field, the NFL’s smallest stadium, but have spent six years deciding where to build it: Chicago, IL; Arlington Heights, IL; or Hammond, IN. The Bears’ board voted Thursday to end their 105-year tenure in Illinois after the state legislature failed to pass a bill offering tax incentives for a new stadium, while Indiana has offered $1B. The decision is not final.

Elsewhere, in sports, a courtside President Trump will become the first sitting president to attend an NBA Finals game as the Knicks look to go up 3-0 on the Spurs in New York tonight.

On the ice, the Golden Knights took a 2-1 series lead over the Hurricanes after a (seriously) wild double-overtime Game 3—the series’ second consecutive OT finish.

Verse to consider when your team wins, loses, or moves to Indiana… “I will bless the Lord at all times; his praise will always be on my lips. I will boast in the Lord; the humble will hear and be glad. Proclaim the Lord’s greatness with me; let us exalt his name together.”
Psalm 34:1-3 (CSB) (read full passage)

IN OTHER BREWS…

Texas Gov. Greg Abbott is tightening the screws after a second case of New World screwworm was confirmed Friday. The flesh-eating parasite—unseen in the U.S. since the 1960s—threatens livestock and has already prompted Canada to restrict cattle imports from affected Lone Star State areas. Abbott declared a statewide disaster and is releasing sterile flies to combat the spread.

The manhunt continues for gunmen who opened fire at an Ohio festival Saturday, injuring at least a dozen people. Officials say two suspects were “probably shooting at each other” when they struck at least 12 others at the popular street festival in a historic Toledo neighborhood. Two of the victims were in critical condition yesterday.

Fresh allegations are rocking Maine’s Senate race. Last week, Marine turned oyster farmer turned Democratic candidate Graham Platner confirmed sending sexually explicit texts while married; then Thursday, a report from three past girlfriends described him as “toxic,” physically threatening, unfaithful, and a heavy drinker—which he denies. The controversies threaten Platner’s polling lead over incumbent moderate Republican Susan Collins in Dems’ must-win race.

TrumpRX just got a refill. Friday, President Trump announced that his administration’s direct-to-consumer drug platform TrumpRx.gov, added 160 prescription drugs, bringing the total number to over 800. #47 said the site now offers discounted prices for “four out of five of every prescription filled by Americans,” saying Americans have saved more than $400M since the website’s launch.

President Trump walked out of a tense "Meet the Press" interview after sparring with moderator Kristen Welker over voter fraud allegations in California's primary elections and his $1.8B "anti-weaponization" fund. Trump said the fund should continue, saying, "Lives have been destroyed." After Welker pressed him for evidence, Trump called her and the networks "crooked" and ended Sunday’s special early.

What We’re Reaching For in The Mornings
LMNT*

I’m really trying to avoid the mid-afternoon crash, so I read an article by LMNT founder Robb Wolf on the best way to caffeinate. One suggestion was to… gulp… wait an hour after waking up.

I decided to try it. Instead of reaching for coffee first thing, I drink LMNT. I’m surprised to report that I feel the difference––refreshing pick-me-up, no crash. And now there’s Lemonade Iced Tea featuring the same salt-forward blend plus just enough caffeine to give you a boost.

The science-backed electrolyte ratio and zero-sugar formula make it an easy yes, and TPO readers get eight single-serve packs free with any purchase!
